e-Cop and StarHub form strategic partnership to deliver enhanced online protection to banking, financial and government institutions
New managed service of StarHub’s Internet Clean Pipe solution ensures greater protection against Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks
Singapore, 30 September 2009 - e-Cop and StarHub today announced a strategic collaboration to provide an integrated managed service for StarHub’s Internet Clean Pipe solution that will ensure greater business continuity against DDoS attacks (see Editor’s Note). The new service is targeted at banking, financial and government institutions, as well as online hosting companies based in Singapore.
StarHub successfully launched its Internet Clean Pipe service last year, which combines its high-quality Internet bandwidth for both IP transit or business Internet services, with an industry-recognised DDoS detection and ‘scrubbing’ solution that is driven by direct input from the customer. This partnership with e-Cop enhances the initial Internet Clean Pipe offering by giving the customers the choice of allowing e-Cop to take the operational load off their manpower resources for managing DDoS incidents so that they are free to focus on other aspects of their business. With the enhanced service, e-Cop will manage and protect the customer’s online assets by providing 24x7 proactive monitoring, analysis, mitigation and data traffic profiling before and after any DDoS attacks, as stipulated by the customer’s requirements and pre-agreed service level agreements.
Said Chong Pow Min, StarHub’s Assistant Vice President of Business Solutions, "The partnership with e-Cop, Asia-Pacific’s leading information security company, solidifies StarHub’s reputation for collaborating with industry-leading organisations to deliver comprehensive and quality solutions to our corporate customers. By deploying the solution, corporate customers will be able to offload their operational resources dedicated to protecting their Internet assets to a trusted online security leader such as e-Cop. This would improve a company’s operational efficiencies while establishing greater peace of mind. The managed service of our Internet Clean Pipe service clearly demonstrates our commitment to offer even better customer support and experience."
"StarHub’s Internet Clean Pipe solution, coupled with e-Cop’s experience in real-time monitoring and mitigation of a company’s online traffic, is more effective in stopping DDoS attacks at the upstream core-router level from an ISP side. It keeps security costs manageable as no hardware or software is required at the customer premises," said e-Cop General Manager Benjamin Mah. "We are excited to partner with StarHub on this integrated solution which protects the organisation’s strategic assets and brand reputation from damage and ensures business continuity by allowing legitimate transactions to be processed so customers can stay ahead of threats with proactive alerts and comprehensive reporting processes."
The managed Internet Clean Pipe solution offers significant flexibility to meet customers’ demands by enabling the ability to filter and protect enterprises of varying sizes, regardless of network resources, existing security hardware, and/or physical location. The managed solution is available in multiple configurations, and is able to handle a wide variety of custom protocols, and network setups. The solution is also easily implemented into networks of all sizes, often with little or no infrastructure investment.

EDITOR’S NOTE
Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS)
A DDoS attack occurs when multiple compromised systems (primed by malware or trojans) flood the bandwidth or resources of a targeted system, overwhelming the business' network so that it can no longer provide the intended online service or obstructing legitimate communications between the business and its customers.
